We can't turn them out of our lives and yet we cannot continue to pay the exorbitant utility prices that seem necessary for us as a nation to survive. Without their selfishness and greed I could not have undergone the tremendous power bills these past years. And although I have been threatened with brown outs, black outs, and shortages which even I can't comprehend over these same years, I still have our power and have never gone without. All my friends and neighbors have never had a moment of loss of power due to a shortage or nonexistence of the same. The only thing these threats and broken promises of shortages has provided is the insane escalation of our power rates over these past years.
I've had it and am doing something about it. I don't believe in expensive storm windows, and can show you a method of protecting your glass that is almost 400 times less expensive and will do a better job of keeping your house cool in summer as well as warmer in the winter.
Energy conservation is nothing new. For centuries man has been storing wood, coal and whatever else that might keep him warm during the long cold winter months. It's like the ant and the grasshopper. We the regular ones, use what the innovators have stored. For example, the hydroelectric dams. Man has devised a method of storing mass quantities of water so when the dry season is upon us they can regulate the flow of the stored water to fall over a dam turning a turbine that operates a generator and provides us, the regular people, with our much needed and now overpriced electricity. I am a Solar design experimenter during the 8 sunny months of Spring, Summer and early Fall. I can heat my hot water, heat my swimming pool, and even use the sun's power on a hot day to extract the hot air out of my house. In the winter time I can't really depend that much on sunlight to provide the power I need. My pool is out of the question, and the domestic hot water can be heated up to 135 degrees on a sunny 17 degree day, but I have to drain the system at night to prevent freezing so it isn't always that convenient to solar heat my water. But these aren't all the answers to the conservation of energy

Well, with only 32% sunshine in the Pacific Northwest, and experts saying not to store heat where there is the possibility of heavy cloud masses, even I can deduce that 5O% is far too great a percentage. I will agree however that a person with a solar designed home and solar system could cut down their existing bill by 50%. Why? When you design a home for solar heating you make certain that the heat you do pick up stays in the house and does not escape out the windows, up the fireplace, out door cracks and out through vent fans in the bathrooms or kitchen. If you make your house tight enough that whatever heat you do pick up from the sun will stay in for a longer period of time, and even if you have to resort to using your conventional gas or oil or electric furnace, you know that most of the heat will remain in your home, keeping you warm and not the outside.
