LATEST UPDATE !!!!!
October 4th 2008
STUPID SIMPLE VERY CHEAP
I Just spent $60.00 on enough "FLEECE"To cover all the windows in my home.
If you simply place a sheet of newspaper over your cold glass you will feel a huge difference
in temperature on your hands. Well, besides the cheap window shades in between my storm windows,
I now have FLEECE liners over the glass inside my house. I used a button hole attachment from
my wife of 42 years sewing machine and used simple brad type nails, three across the top of each
window and it works great !!!
During the day I unhook two brads and let the liner fall behind one end of the hanging drapes.
It's been between 45 and 55 degrees at night out here in Washington and my house has been
around 68 degrees in the morning after being 69 at bedtime.
I am trying not to run my gas furnace this winter !!!
![]() Here is my window blanket hanging in my dinning room
I used three grommets and three pin nails to hang it.
![]() Same window and insert window shade all the way down.
You can see I hide the window blanket behind the drape when not in use.
The window shade is placed inside the old fashioned aliminum storm windows.
This entire project was very inexpensive and works great !!
![]() A close up of the fleece and grommet. I think a simple button hole would work very well.
This will keep your house cooler in the summer as well.

Here in the Seattle Washington area we have an IKEA Store.
They sell an 11 Watt Compact Tubular Florescent Bulb
to replace your 60 Watt or 40 watt Bulbs for $2.99 Each.
Update... Fred Meyer / Kruger stors are selling 13W replacement for 60 Watt bulbs for 99Cents !!
There was a time when I thought that these bulbs
were not cost effective, but at that price and with a ten year life span it's
hard to go wrong. You will save a great amount of money over the years.
I made two reflectors and replaced two 150 Watt outdoor spot lights
for my back yard and my driveway.
I also replaced 90% of my lights inside the house with these bulbs.
Made a nice difference on my electric bills.
Check into the new Tankless Hot Water Heaters
I Will Be Replacing my Gas Hot Water Heater as soon as it gives me a little trouble

Times are changing and there are actually some additional great ideas as well
![]() This year we are trying not to use our gas furnace.
I have window shades inside all windows, Floresent
bulbs in 98% of the light sockets, and just connected
this clothes dryer heat saver that my wife and I will use
when we are home in the evenings or weekends to
help keep the house warmer. This device hooks up
between the dryer and the outside vent.
In the cooler months open the vent to allow the warm
air in the house and during the warmer months close
the vent and exhaust the hot air to the outside of your home.
If you use your dishwasher, clothes dryer, oven
while you are home you will help heat your home
and keep your energy costs way down.
I Live in the Seattle Wa. Area and it's October 16th
and we haven't had to turn on our gas heat so far.
